Happy belated International Women's Day - like most I am happy to have a day to focus on and support women, say thanks to the great women in my life, and there are many of these. I am also sad that we are not further forward.
We are still talking about this and I want more - more action.
Less talk, more doing.
I was particularly sad when I saw the WEGA results for pay parity recently and realised that I would have been many many 100,000's dollars better off in my career if I was a man.
I want to see more from organisations.
More from boards.
And I hope that you do too!
More opportunities for you.
I am going to continue on my mission of helping women in their careers - so we can all rise together.
Through this newsletter I want to create ripples that then create more ripples and then more ripples and so on.
As such this week I want to dig into what is holding you back, what you can do about it and how you can be as fabulous as I know that you are!
What is holding you back?
A lot of the women that I meet through my coaching generally have a few things in common.
1. They have been busy being busy in their job. Head down and focused on doing everything they can to do a great job.
2. They have neglected their career - that means they don't have a vision and plan for what they want to do and where they want to go. Plus they are not networking in their industry.
3. Something happens dramatically to make them rethink this. ie. they are made redundant, they don't get promoted, they don't like their boss.
And then - OMG - what have I been doing with myself? How did I get here?
What can you do?
If you are reading this and thinking that sounds a bit like me or maybe a lot like me - what should you do?
1. What is the vision for the next 6 - 12 months? Then the next 2 - 3 years?
2. What is working and not working? What do you need to say goodbye to?
3. What is the plan - how are you going to execute on that vision?
4. Who do you need around you to make that happen?
5. What skills do I have and what do I need to develop.
6. What skills would I like to develop.
What is blocking you?
I want you to sit there and think about what is blocking you?
What are the excuses that you are telling yourself? What is the negative self talk that you are listening to?
Now these could be quite valid excuses - but what are they?
Ok - now how can you go around theses excuses?
What can you do?
Sometimes you need to be brave before you are confident.
What does that look like for you? What are the steps that you can take to shift forward.
Check out my Career Development Canvas to help you with this thinking.
I often use this with my coaching clients to get down the key actions on one page, that they can refer back to.
