I have recently been reading a book by Ryan Holiday called 'The Obstacle is the Way - The Ancient Art of turning Adversity to Advantage'.
It is all about self mastery through the lense of the stoics.
The book has helped reinforce the perspective that stuff is going to happen but it is how you deal with it that is important.
Your mindset?
Your actions?
What are you going to do instead?
Stuff is going to be hard but how do you move forward, think differently and bring joy and happiness into your life.
Something didn't work out how you wanted it to - how are you going to move forward?
What are you going to do or try to shift the dial a different direction.
How are you going to act?
Today I was thinking it is hard to come up with new ideas for a weekly newseltter. If I think that then I am not going to be able to write anything - I will just get stuck in the hard.
So I decided to move past that and write about how to think differently about our challenges.
What do you need to master?
What is the lesson that you need to learn that keeps showing up in you life?
What is the thing - that you think - why does this keep happening to me?
How do you take a different path?
In the book - Ryan talks about persistance - the ability to keep going and to keep trying. He then talks about perserverance.
Persistance feels like those daily actions and that ability to keep trying and to keep going. Perserverance seems like the long game of lots of persistance.
So whatever is going on for you at the moment - if you think it is hard then yep - it will be.
But if you start to look it at differently and discover - what do you need to do or change and break it down.
It doesn't have to be so hard!
So if you are looking for a good book to read this weekend. Then check out 'The Obstacle is the Way'. Its an easy and simple read - that just makes a lot of sense.
Enjoy!
