I have always thought - don’t ever tie yourself to one career, one job and one future. With a great big wide world out there - there are so many jobs, companies and opportunities that you can explore - especially now with so much tech at your finger tips. You can start your own company in the blink of an eye!
Future-proofing your career is about staying adaptable, continuously learning, and strategically positioning yourself to thrive in an evolving job market.
In a recent post in linkedin I recently talked about how I had multiple other jobs whilst building a traditional C suite career. You might call it side hustle.
Why?
Because I am curious, because I wanted to try being my own boss, because I wanted to learn new skills.
Because after working for various companies for 30+ years and being told what to value - I wanted to have my own voice and my own opinion.
In the last 15 years on the side I have:
- Renovated and flipped 4 properties
- Started and ran an airbnb property
- Built businesses - beauty and health
- Built a dropship horse brand
- Built multiple websites
- Built a podcast
- Built socials
What have I have learnt:
- Try stuff. Most of it is not going to work.
- Build stuff yourself.
- You will learn lots.
- You will fail.
You will also get there!
Here are some strategies for Future-proofing your career.
