Around Covid my hubby - James or Jimmy as I call him decided to start a gratefulness practice. Each morning he would take out his phone and write down 3 things that he was grateful for.
I don't know where he got the idea or why he started but he did.
I think he wasn't loving a job that he was in or the boss that he was reporting to - who seemed to change once he hired him.
So he felt he needed a bit more to get him through the day.
And he kept doing it.
He started telling me about it and I was fairly dismissive. I was a bit like that is nice. Smiley face. (Sorry Jimmy)
He started to pull some of the data and started to see themes.
Jimmy has always been glass half full and confident in himself, calm and very solid. It is one of his greatest personality traits. But like anyone he can have blips and moments of self doubt and worry.
Then he kept up the practice.
The consistency started to kick in.
Then he started swimming. He decided that he wanted to start ocean swimming.
He started weekly and then mulitple times during the week.
A friend joined him.
He swam all through winter.
He went back to boxing (yes he is a killer in disguise).
Then he started swimming at all the big swims over the summer.
And he kept going.
He started swimming with some groups.
He even ended up swimming at a Masters event down in Lorne and winning a silver medal with his team.
And if I look what changed it was the gratefulness practice.
About 18 months ago he managed to pull me into it.
He would ask me each morning what where 3 things that I am grateful for. And I would tell him.
This small 5 min exercise in the morning before the day starts whilst having a cup of tea has helped both of us see the good in our lives and be grateful for what we have and who we are.
During this time we have faced many personal struggles - losing jobs, losing people we love, raising 2 teenage boys but this small practice has grounded us back to what is important to us individually and as a partnership.
Each day.
It has definitely made me happier and I think rewired my brain to be more positive!
And don't we all want that in our lives! See down below for my tip this week!! How differently could your life look in a year.
Thank you to all the people who filled in the survey and gave such great feedback last week. I am looking forward to incorporating the information into my work!
I also have some very exciting ideas in the works that are going include coaching and horses!
So stay tuned for that! Something that I have been exploring for a while! Very very exciting!
And
If you didn't get a chance - the survey is still open!
