This week I want to share my strategies to simplify presenting.
I recently presented to a group of women in tech on growing your career and I came up with a really simple format to present the ideas!
I think I surprised myself.
It was so simple that on the day I didn’t need notes. I was easily able to remember what I wanted to say. Plus do a bit of ad-libbing - which I enjoy!
The format I used was:
- Theme or Idea
- Explanation
- Examples
- Story
- Quick exercise
Repeat!
We remember things through repetition and story telling.
I had 5 themes or key ideas. ( I would reduce to 3 or 4 going forward).
I had about 3 - 4 slides per Theme and then I had a couple of pictures and did super simple slides with only a word or two in my brand colours so I could remember the idea or point that I was trying to get across. At the end of each point I would ask the audience what it looked like for them.
The presentation ran smoothly, I remember what I wanted to say and the audience was super receptive!
Win Win!
If you don’t love presenting then the next time that you need to present then give this format a whirl!
Practice, have a go and try it out and see what fits best with you and your style!
My action item for this week is:
See if you can find a time to present your work to your team and even a bigger audience!
Give it a go! xx
