61. How do you attract the job you want?

Feb 12, 2024

Last week I was at an event chatting to one of the attendees.

When she heard that I was a career coach - she shared the story that she kept getting pitched for the same jobs. Jobs that she was already doing and that she couldn't seem to shift her career forward.

She felt stuck! How could she move forward?

I am a big believer in building a bridge between what you do today and what you would like to be doing.

I recommended to Sue - to work through what was the next job that she wanted to be doing.

Then based on that job, what were the skills that you need to do that job. Then how could she re-write her CV showcasing those skills.

In the Confidence Project - we work through a section called Understanding your and Your Strengths. This is to get clear on what you are good and how you can showcase these.

I urged Sue to consider how she could demonstrate that she was already doing aspects of these things in her current role.

I've heard a lot of people say that your CV documents what you have already done but it should also showcase your capability.

So when you are looking at the job description for a job that seems like a step up - compare it your CV and then see how and where you can demonstrate that you have the skills to do the job.

Go after it!

Imagine yourself in the job.

My action for you this week is:

Rewrite your CV for the job that you want.

Not the job that you already have to today!
